PSE monitor
PSE Monitor provides pharmacies and law enforcement with a tool to track the sale of products containing pseudoephedrine (PSE) so that state and federal restrictions can be effectively enforced.
The following pseudoephedrine logging and tracking functions are provided by PSE Monitor:
- PSE Monitor allows an authorized pharmacy or other retail
user to enter the identifying information for a customer who
wants to purchase pseudoephedrine – such as last name,
first name, date of birth, address, and driver license number
and retrieve pseudoephedrine-related information regarding that
customer. This information includes the amount of pseudoephedrine
purchased by the customer in the past 30 days (milligrams),
or the amount of pseudoephedrine the customer is allowed to
purchase at present (milligrams).
- Once PSE Monitor is used to determine if state and federal
quantity restrictions are not being violated, purchase information
can then be entered. This can include date of purchase, a short
product description and the number of milligrams of pseudoephedrine
in the product being purchased. This information updates the
central repository on a real-time basis, thus preventing the
illegal practice of “smurfing” – going from
pharmacy to pharmacy and buying otherwise legal amounts of products
containing pseudoephedrine (usually less than 9 milligrams).
- PSE Monitor provides an automated means for chain pharmacies and retail outlets to programmatically query the information to allow for integration with point of sale systems. In such cases the system will use a weighted algorithm, provided by the client for whom the module is being implemented to decide whether or not a match was found for the person who wishes to purchase pseudoephedrine.
PSE Monitor also provides a mechanism that automatically
archives any data prior to 30 days from the system date into an
archival database and makes the data available to be accessed in
that archived database.
