Optimum Enhances Data Sharing and Reporting for Ohio Department of Aging Advocacy Program
Optimum Technology is helping Ohio’s long-term care ombudsmen spend less time on paperwork and more time assisting the state’s residents with long-term care issues.
The Ombudsman Documentation and Information System (ODIS), powered by Optimum, helps ombudsman staff and volunteers statewide to more efficiently plan and document their activities, manage case information, and file required reports with the Ohio Department of Aging. The Optimum system also allows the department to collect, analyze and submit required reporting data to the National Ombudsman Reporting Service.
Ohio’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program assists residents in long-term care facilities and their families by explaining care options, investigating service complaints, and voicing the needs and concerns of residents to nursing homes, home health agencies and other long-term care providers.
ODIS helps free time for ombudsman to perform core monitoring and advocacy activities. The system enables ombudsmen to easily collect and record information needed to automate many activities including case management, complaint handling, advocacy information processing, and issue tracking. A standardized Web-based interface minimizes training time and enables new users to quickly and easily learn the system.
ODIS also automates the data input process, eliminating the need for periodic data preparation and submission by regional ombudsman staff. It also enables the state ombudsman’s office to identify trends and track activities related to long-term care legislation and other issues.
